What is Azure SignalR Service and why is it used?

Modified on Thu, 5 Feb at 6:14 PM

Azure SignalR Service is utilized as part of our self‑hosted Azure service stack to provide real‑time, bi‑directional communication channels between the printer console and cloud‑based authentication workflows via the HP Secure Authentication Mobile Badge app. This enables users to authenticate by scanning a proprietary QR code generated directly on the printer’s control panel, facilitating secure session initiation and handshake exchange with our identity services.

Is it Optional?

Yes - only if you are using one of the HP Authentication Manager–certified card readers together with the corresponding Badges/Smart Cards, then SignalR and its related services are not required.

Are there Any additional Costs?

Yes - Charges are based on the selected service plan (Basic, Standard, Premium) and usage metrics such as connections and messages. Azure SignalR Service Pricing | Microsoft Azure

It also requires you to run Azure Function Which  Provides the secure authentication gateway for HP Authentication Manager printer application and for the HP Secure Authentication mobile application, this service is to receive a token before connecting to the SignalR service for further secure communication.
